Less than a day after the final presidential debate before the February 5 primaries, Senator Barack Obama received a spate of important endorsements:

  • California SEIU, which previously supported Edwards, has endorsed Obama (h/t Calitics). The SEIU represents 650,000 workers in the state and should help Obama's ground game.
  • MoveOn.org, a progressive political group that boasts 3.2 million members, backed Obama by a 70.4% to 29.6% vote. Said MoveOn in a press release, "MoveOn's endorsement means a fresh infusion of people-power for Obama in the critical days before Super Tuesday. MoveOn will immediately connect thousands of progressive activists into the Obama GOTV volunteer operation. It will also use the same cutting-edge computer-based phone program that made 7 million GOTV calls for Democrats in 2006 to allow MoveOn members to call other MoveOn members in Feb. 5 states and encourage them to vote for Obama."
  • The Fresno Bee, the most well-read newspaper in the Central Valley, also endorsed Obama. The paper previously endorsed Edwards.
  • Senator Leland Yee, who previously endorsed Edwards, has also thrown his hat into the Obama ring. Yee is the first Edwards-backing member of the state legislature to make a new endorsement.
