An Exhilirating Evening

Celebration outside City HallI was down at City Hall, as advertised earlier, and it was really just an electrifying atmosphere. While you see a bunch of hateful signs in my flickr set, the bigots were vastly outnumbered. It's just that they brought some big and quite obnoxious signs.

Everybody who walked out of City Hall emerged to a thunderous round of applause, and it generally died down as they walked away.  Special applause was reserved for Tom Ammiano, the next Assemblyman from AD-13 and Supervisor Bevan Dufty.

Brian and I walked into City Hall a few minutes late for Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon's ceremony, but I'm hoping to get pictures of the event soon. You can also check Bill Wilson's site tomorrow for some close shots of the action. Incidentally, Bill himself is getting married tomorrow to his long-time partner by Mayor Newsom in one of the first ceremonies in the morning.

As for the actual ceremonies, a friend of mine who works for the mayor said that he would be performing the ceremonies from 8am-8pm for the next few days. It truly is an historic and memorable week. When we defeat the anti-marriage foolishness on the ballot, we will look back at this week as the start of something great for California and the nation.
