Liveblogging the Sacramento County Young Dems Mayoral Forum and Endorsement Meeting

5:30 -- I am at the Sacramento County Young Democrats mayoral forum featuring Mayor Heather Fargo and Kevin Johnson. Following their presentations, the club will endorse a candidate. 5:34 -- Kevin Johnson is up first. Giving a biographical background right now. UC Berkeley, basketball career, founding St. Hope. 5:36 -- Public safety, education, and economic development are his three "platform issues." Cites $58 million budget deficit, largest in Sacramento. 5:38 -- "How do you plan on working with the groups that are currently opposing you?" Answer: Two promises to himself "I will not take anything personal," and "I will always have fun." Has worked with groups he's opposed to, citing going to an endorsement meeting with the CTA that many thought people didn't expect him to go to.  5:40 -- Question about homelessness. Answer: Response shouldn't just be city. City-county. West Sac-Roseville. If Sacramento is going to take the lead on controlling the region's homeless, which he thinks we should do, then the neighboring communities need to help out.   5:45 -- Question about marriage equality. "I will certainly support [the Court's decision] 100 percent." 5:46 -- Question about city budget. Says spending on public safety most important to preserve. Moving forward, agressive economic development plan important. 5:49 -- Question about Phoenix as a model city for Sacramento. Like Phoenix, he wants the region's colleges to set up branches in downtown areas. Wants Sacramento to be engaged with regards to economic development.
