Obama's California Campaign: What's the Story

With voting for the February California about five months away, the heavily-funded presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama still hasn't hired any California staff while rival Sen. Hillary Clinton's operation has been going full steam for months. Over at Calitics, the progressive Democratic website, the frustraiton with the Obama campaign is starting to boil over. Calitics regular Juls Rosen posted this "Where's Obama's Campaign in California on Tuesday," and the comments are still rolling in.

Here are a few of the comments:

  • "Media is HUGE in this state. However, earned media can only take a candidate so far. If Edwards doesn't have a good field effort here AND some of his own TV and radio ads, that momentum gained in Nevada may go nowhere here. I'm being honest right now. At this moment, neither Obama NOR Edwards is doing what's needed to overtake Clinton's hold on the Golden State. Obama for America needs to coordinate better with the Obama Grassroots groups, and the Edwards campaign needs to grow some more grassroots in the state. If neither campaign gets its act togther, then Hillary may very well get her "comeback" on February 5."
  • "I don't mean to point out the obvious, but its apparent that Obama just doesn't care about California the way we want him to? My impression is that its all about the money with Obama, and California is sick and tired of being treated like an ATM. At least Hillary is taking this state seriously and is hiring some good experienced staffers."
