Schwarzenegger's Republicans Donors Dumping More Cash into Partisan Redistricting Measure as it Struggles to Qualify for Ballot

Signature gatherers are now getting $1.50 for each signature on the petitions to put the Governor's redistricting measure on the November ballot -- a significant sum that signals that effort is having difficulty qualifying. Just a few weeks ago, signature gatherers were receiving just 50 cents a signature.
When the initiative was announced several months ago, its backers said they would push their extensive volunteer efforts to gather signatures. Indeed, Common Cause, AARP, and the League of Women Voters have all used their networks to get signatures. Apparently without any luck.
Meanwhile, the campaign reported four hefty donations yesterday. What did they have in common? The same thing as nearly all the other major donations to the campaign. They all are from contributors to the New Majority PAC and dozens of conservative Republican candidates.
