Barack Obama Opposes Proposition 8
by Chairman Art Torres [courtesy of Party Line]
Over the weekend, Sen. Barack Obama announced his opposition to Proposition 8, the constitutional amendment Californians will vote on this November which seeks to prohibit same-sex marriage.
From the Sacramento Bee:
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who previously said the issue of gay marriage should be left up to each state, has announced his opposition to a California ballot measure that would ban same-sex marriages.
In a letter to Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club read Sunday at the group's annual Pride Breakfast in San Francisco, the Illinois senator said he supports extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples under both state and federal law."
"And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states," Obama wrote.

Barack Obama Opposes Prop 8, the anti-marriage amendment
by Brian Leubitz [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
In a letter to the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, Sen. Barack Obama stated his opposition to the California constitutional amendment. As far as I know, this is the first official mention of such a position.
Incidentally, the Alice Pride Breakfast was an amazing success. I'll have pictures up from the Alice Breakfast and Leno Pride 2008 up soon.
Check the letter out over the flip...

Intimidating Bloggers: Carole Midgen Staff Edition
by juls [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
You know what's really dumb? When a political figure gets mad at something a blogger writes, then tries to take a whack at you through your boss (a non blogging boss to be more precise) and they are wrong on the facts. Then the bloggers get her back and you end up looking silly and make a bigger deal out of it then it was originally. (Or at least that is my prediction with this one. It is a well worn path after all). So here is a nice little story for this fine Friday.
