Senate Cloture Vote on Retroactive Immunity
by Bob Brigham [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
Boy, lameduck CDP Chair Art Torres sure looks like shit. All that smoke he blew up the asses of the E-Board about how DiFi listens to him and so she shouldn't be censured -- well it was all crap. He stuck his neck out to vouch for DiFi on an issue as simple as upholding her oath of office and by doing so made an ass of himself and made himself look irrelevant at the same time. Didn't think it could get any worse than the scandal over the $4 million payola to Fabian Nunez, but Torres sure out did himself on this one.
Also not surprising, Senator Barbara Boxer fought to defend the Constitution against domestic enemies like Senator Dianne Feinstein. And fortunately for her, she's putting together a strong re-election campaign that won't rely upon the worthless CDP during the time we are recovering from the Torres dynasty.
Way to go Art! P.S. We were right about DiFi.

John McCain's YouTube Problem
by Chairman Art Torres [courtesy of Party Line]
A friend of mine just sent me a video that exposes John McCain’s lies to the American people. The video ends with this exhortation: “It’s up to you to get the word out. Send this to 10 people, and tell them to pass it on.”
So I’m passing it on to you, my Democratic friends in California, and asking you to continue circulating it. We need to spread the word that John McCain’s supposed “Straight Talk” is really just a lot of double-talk.

California Democratic Party Chairman Art Torres on Inexperience and History
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
Senator Art Torres (Ret.), Chairman of the California Democratic Party, issued the following statement:
"The California Republican Party issued a statement last night that completely ignores the facts of American presidential history.
One of our country's greatest Presidents, another former Illinois State Legislator named Abraham Lincoln, was attacked by his opponents for his 'inexperience.' Look at what Lincoln's opponents said, and look at what Lincoln did.
Similarly, Richard Nixon campaigned against the 'inexperience' of a young U.S. Senator named John Fitzgerald Kennedy. That 'inexperienced' Senator went on to become a President who helped the nation avert nuclear war and is remembered as one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century.
And President Ford accused Ronald Reagan of lacking the necessary experience to serve in the Oval Office, yet Reagan helped bring down the Berlin Wall.
Look at what their opponents said, and look what they did. History has proven these attacks wrong every time since 1860. They didn't work then, and they will not work now."

Torres to Governor: 'This is not Austria'
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
Torres to Governor: You're Not in Austria Anymore
Consider this an in case you missed it: "Torres to Schwarzenegger: 'This is not Austria'":
"Art Torres, the chair of the California Democratic Party, is taking a shot at Arnold Schwarzenegger for comments the governor made Wednesday about small towns in California.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Schwarzenegger told attendees at the infrastructure conference that it’s good for state legislators from “little towns” to see worldly things like "an airport" or even "a highway on top of a highway."
“The Governor’s comments are insulting,” Torres told PolitickerCA.com today. “California does not have villages. This is not Austria, this is California. Voters in Central California and others from small towns have more on the ball than Arnie! ..."

CDP Chair Torres Says Mission Not Accomplished, Doubts McCain Up to the Task
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
Senator Art Torres (Ret.), Chairman of the California Democratic Party, issued the following statement on the five-year anniversary of President Bush’s declaration of "Mission Accomplished." Just days after Bush’s speech on the U.S.S. Lincoln, John McCain said "it’s clear that the end is very much in sight." Now -- five years, more than 4,000 lost lives, and at least $500 billion later -- John McCain says keeping our troops in Iraq for 100 years would be fine with him. "John McCain is wrong on Iraq, and the wrong choice for California," said Torres. "After standing side-by-side with President Bush as he misled us into war and declared ‘mission accomplished’ before it was over, John McCain has been the President’s most loyal supporter every step of the way. John McCain doesn’t understand that Californians are not ‘fine’ with our troops staying in Iraq for 100 years under any circumstances. It is time to start using some of the $435 million a day, $3 billion per week, $12 billion a month we spend in Iraq to address the real threats to America's security, take care of our injured veterans and invest in confronting the challenges we face right here at home. Clearly, the only way to do that is to put a Democrat in the White House. Californians will vote to do just that come November."

Unemployment Up, Jobs Stagnate
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
Look at the bright side; at least they're looking for work. Here's the San Francisco Chronicle:
"Across the nation, jobs dipped by 80,000 in March and the unemployment rate rose .03 percentage point to 5.1 percent, the Labor Department reported earlier this month. The Labor Department's state data, released today, showed that only Michigan and Alaska had higher unemployment rates than California in March, a sign of the severity of the state's housing bust. ..."
And here's California Democratic Party Chair Art Torres:
"Today, we learned that California’s unemployment rate jumped to 6.2 percent, meaning 1.13 million Californians are now out of work. While the unemployment rate rises, Californians continue to lose their homes in the mortgage crisis, and gas and food prices continue to skyrocket, where are the Republicans? ..."

CDP Chair Torres on Sunday's Delegate Races
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
With the state's DNC delegate selection process reaching record levels of attendance, you had to know a statement from CDP Chair Art Torres was coming. Here it is:
"Since I became Chair of our great Party in 1996, I have never seen such an incredible outpouring of Democratic activists at congressional district-level delegate selection caucuses. More than 23,000 Democrats showed up Sunday afternoon to support more than 2,500 candidates vying for 241 slots.
We should be proud of California Democrats for recognizing what is at stake for our state, our nation and our world in this Presidential election.
Not everyone can attend the Democratic National Convention this year, but everyone can participate from now until Election Day on November 4, 2008 to help elect a Democratic President.
There's more...
