Disclaimer: I am a volunteer for Obama for America in California, but I am speaking for myself and based on my personal experience as a volunteer, not for the campaign in any way. You can read my other posts about the campaign here.

More than two months after the California primary, Obama campaign volunteers are still organized and working around the state. Having built a cadre of trained grassroots organizers to contend for votes on February 5, the campaign isn’t letting this resource go to waste. Here in the Bay Area we have been busy running volunteer-based phonebanks to call other states, including Texas, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Oregon. Right now we are sending teams of volunteers to help out on the ground in Oregon.

Delegate Election Notice from CDP Chair Torres

[courtesy of The California Majority Report]

Here's an e-mail California delegate candidates (who survived the purge at least) received from CDP Chair Art Torres:

"As we approach this weekend's Congressional District Caucuses, the final list of those who will be on the ballot in each CD is now posted at www.cadem.org/finalapplicants. Per the National Delegate Selection Rules, each campaign reviewed  the applications and returned to the California Democratic Party the approved list of District delegate applicants.

Caucuses to elect the delegates will take place everywhere in the state at 3:00 p.m., with sign-in and voting starting at 2:00 p.m.

The California Democratic Party has put up a widget on our website where you can point your supporters to go and pre-register for the caucuses. All you have to do is go to www.cadem.org and look on the right-hand side -- then just fill in the blanks and follow the prompts. Although pre-registration is not required, you can cut down the long lines and help out the campaign volunteers who are staging these events by taking this simple step ahead of time. The deadline for pre-registration is Thursday, April 10th at 5:00 p.m.

It’s an exciting year to be a Young Democrat in California. While we know have been the margin of victory for many crucial races it’s gratifying to finally be treated as such. Presidential candidates have made the trips to our campuses and conventions and spent money fighting for the youth vote.

We are not apathetic. We are not “just volunteers”, and we are not “the future generation”. We are here to make change for our world. We are here to work hard on campaigns throughout the country, as students from California bundled up to knock on doors in Iowa and New Hampshire, as we make the world realize that young voters are the present of the Democratic Party. I finished finals and stopped off in my hometown for fifteen precious hours of Christmas holidays before getting on a plane to Des Moines, Iowa.

DFA Training Academy Makes a Stop in Sacramento

DFA Training Academy - Sacramento

Click here for a slideshow from the Sacramento DFA Training Academy.

The DFA Training Academy made a stop in Sacramento this past weekend.  Arshad Hasan and his team of trainers provided a two-day intense, educational experience.  I think it's safe to say that everyone came out of this weekend with a greater understanding of what it takes to support, and eventually run, a winning campaign!

A wide variety of "students" attended our training.  We had everyone from complete beginners who have never worked on a campaign all the way up to experienced campaign volunteers and former (and future) candidates themselves.  We had a pretty decent turnout, despite the fact that the California Democratic Party Executive Board was also meeting this weekend in Sacramento.  A few people were even able to go back and forth between the two events.
