John Doolittle Getting Hammered in Local Paper: Brown Rocks
by Julia Rosen [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
Man is Doolittle getting smacked around by the local paper on his fundraising and legal problems. These two paragraph are a beautiful sight to see in the Auburn Journal. This was printed on Monday, but just saw it now.
Doolittle, whose ninth term in Congress has been marred by a Justice Depart-ment investigation related to his ties with imprisoned lobbyist Jack Abramoff, trailed during the July-to-September period, pulling in $54,908.Doolittle's third quarter fund-raising and expenditures left his campaign with $37,995 in cash on hand. Brown, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel from Roseville, was sitting by the end of September with $382,000 in cash on hand, a spokesman said Monday.
Got that. Doolittle: marred, Justice Dept investigation, Jack Abramoff. Brown: USAF Lt. Col. ret, sitting on cash in hand. Nice!

CA-04: Brown With An Amazing Haul
by David Dayen [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
It's deadline day for 3rd quarter FEC reports, and the one I was really waiting for was from Charlie Brown. He didn't disappoint.
Cash raised in Q3: $212,091
Total cash raised this cycle: $495,830 (wow!)
Cash on hand: $382,767
Media's not cheap in that district, but certainly nowhere near as expensive as in many other parts of the state. So this is an even bigger haul, comparatively.
How much did John Doolittle take in, you ask? This is embarrassing.
Cash raised in Q3: $50,308
Total cash raised this cycle: $296,332
Cash on hand: $37,995
That's LESS than Eric Egland, one of his primary opponents, raised. AND, 15% of that goes to Doolittle's wife, right?
Things are looking good in the Sierras...

CA-26: David Dreier Pushes Panic Button
by Bob Brigham [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
If you go check out the 3rd quarter numbers, you'll see an interesting recent change in David Dreier's behavior. Here are the net contributions (after refunds) for David Dreier by quarter:
Q1: $20.275.00
Q2: $39,082.84
Q3: $261,975.00
This last quarter's take is more than one and a half times the entire amount he raised in the 2006 cycle -- as Chair of Rules. He should be worried, Russ Warner has $193,554.60 Cash on Hand.

Ironic Imbalances: CRP in Debt
by Julia Rosen [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
The Republicans in the Senate are holding up the state's budget because they are trying to achieve their notion of balance, even though the goal posts for what that entails keep shifting. Complicated I know, but so is this whole mess. Here is a simple fact, the Republicans can't even balance their own funds. So why should we trust them with the state's? The California Republican Party is in debt, and does not have the cash to pay off its debts. They are paying off huge loan fees each month, which you know has to be killing them on principle. The headline in the LAT today is "State GOP awash in red ink" Ouch. That has got to hurt.

Debt-Ridden Doolittle Flailing in Fundraising
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
The Associated Press reports tonight that self-proclaimed fiscal conservative John Doolittle can't balance his own campaign budget. According to AP, Doolittle has $74,383 cash on-hand and owes $106,633. Some $76K of that debt is owed to his wife, who was his fundraiser.
Meanwhile, rival Charlie Brown, who is making another run at Doolittle, has $268,574 cash on-hand and owes $17,326.
Doolittle also seems to be sucking wind as a fundraiser these days. He's fallen well behind last year's pace, as has Congressman Jerry Lewis.
