Is Arnold allowing dirty tricksters to steal the White House?

by Julia Rosen [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

(also up at daily kos)

That was the title of a Courage Campaign email that just went out to their list.  David Dayen (dday) and myself had the same idea, which turned into that email.  Since Arnold said last week that he hadn't read the initiative, and therefore could not take a stance on it, we should send him a bunch of copies of the initiative.  That way he had no more excuses the next time he was asked about it.

The text of the email is below the fold.  If you have not signed the pledge to fight this please do that and send Arnold an email.  Our Facebook group is now up to 336 members and growing.

I am personally going to head up with a stack of emails to Arnold's office later this week and hand deliver them.  Don't worry, I will report back with all of the details.  We are working hard to marry the best of the netroots and online activism with this campaign and simultaneously build up long term progressive infrastructure in Courage Campaign.  You can support this work by donating to Courage.

Please help me Raise $5,000 for my Husband's Campaign

by Ellinorianne [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

Cross Posted from Daily Kos

Yes, it's a lot of money.  But if just 1,000 readers here gave five dollars that would help me reach my personal goal of raising $5,000 for my husbands State Senate campaign.  He's running because of me, I have to support the deadbeat.

Yes, that's humor.  He's a good guy and we are working on many other means to raise money.  The official campaign stationary is on the way, unfortunately the wrong paper was delivered, we are insisting on recycled paper and are using a local union printer.  All important choices on our part.

So, what can I share about Gary?  Well, he got the Democracy for America endorsement last week and that meant the world to both of us.  I will include his questionnaire behind the cut so you can learn more about what he believes.

I'm a 37 year old California native who was born in the Central Valley town of Bakersfield and raised near the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park.

I now live in Aliso Viejo with Heather my supportive spouse of 10 years; Charlotte our exuberant five year old daughter; and Sophie our

McCain-Clinton Gas Tax Plan to Cost California 23,107 Jobs?

[courtesy of California Progress Report]

Robert-Cruickshank.gifBy Robert Cruickshank

That's the claim from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, which has a study showing how the gas tax cut will affect jobs in each state.

The assumption the AR&BTA is using is that the tax cut would blow a $9 billion hole in the federal transportation budget. Based on FY 07-08 expenditures CA's share of that would be $664,406,924. The association then estimates that 23,107 jobs would be lost here in California - roughly equivalent to the proposed school layoffs - over the next three years.

No wonder then that local transportation agencies across the state are denouncing this foolish proposal. From Santa Cruz:

“"It would deplete an already oversubscribed highway trust fund, making a bad situation worse," commission Executive Director George Dondero said. "We're trying to get the government to generate more money for transportation, not less."

“Dondero said he didn't know how much the county could lose, just that "future projects would have to wait."

Politico: Senator Hillary Clinton Has (Virtually) No Chance

[courtesy of The California Majority Report]

The Politico's Jim Vandehei and Mike Allen don't minse words when it comes to Senator Hillary Clinton's chances for winning the Democratic nomination: (h/t Daily Kos)

"One big fact has largely been lost in the recent coverage of the Democratic presidential race: Hillary Rodham Clinton has virtually no chance of winning.

Her own campaign acknowledges there is no way that she will finish ahead in pledged delegates. That means the only way she wins is if Democratic superdelegates are ready to risk a backlash of historic proportions from the party’s most reliable constituency.

Unless Clinton is able to at least win the primary popular vote — which also would take nothing less than an electoral miracle — and use that achievement to pressure superdelegates, she has only one scenario for victory. An African-American opponent and his backers would be told that, even though he won the contest with voters, the prize is going to someone else. ..."

(CA80thAD) Gloria Romero & Dolores Huerta Endorse Perez

by soyinkafan [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

California Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero and celebrated labor leader and civil rights champion Dolores Huerta endorse Manuel Perez, Candidate for the 80th Assembly District.

"I feel honored beyond words", says Mr. Perez, "to have received this support from two of California's most distinguished leaders.  Both Dolores Huerta and Senator Romero have worked hard for those who have been marginalized and underrepresented.  I will attempt the same."

This is one of the few California state seats in play this year, and the demographics indicate it should be blue by now.  Manuel Perez is an organizer, a healthcare provider, and a powerful progressive voice for this region.  Good thing I listened to netroots nags and ran for state delegate, because now I'll have the honor of endorsing him this Thursday at our Pre-Endorsement meeting, and caucusing for him at the State Convention.   For your people-powered politics fix, read more about Manuel Perez on the flip.
