democratic national convention
We're Stunned That We've Been Shunned!
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
The California Majority Report has been denied credentials to participate in covering the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August. Which makes the criticism by DailyKos and our friends at Calitics about the selection process a little weird, since they seem to be griping that the "establishment" blogs in most states have been credentialed while those that aren't in lockstep with the state party have been denied credentials.
Well, uh, we've long been accused of being California's establishment Democratic blog in the blogosphere, particularly by our pals at Calitics. Yet they are among those complaining to DNC Chairman Howard Dean about which blogs are getting credentialed and which aren't.
Seems to me like the DNC did the best job it could sorting through the applications. And heck, we'd like to have the official credentials (don't worry fans, I'm bringing my laptop on the floor with me as an officially elected delegate), but there's no reason to go nuclear on Howard Dean because you didn't get a ticket to the big show.

CDP Chair Torres on Sunday's Delegate Races
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
With the state's DNC delegate selection process reaching record levels of attendance, you had to know a statement from CDP Chair Art Torres was coming. Here it is:
"Since I became Chair of our great Party in 1996, I have never seen such an incredible outpouring of Democratic activists at congressional district-level delegate selection caucuses. More than 23,000 Democrats showed up Sunday afternoon to support more than 2,500 candidates vying for 241 slots.
We should be proud of California Democrats for recognizing what is at stake for our state, our nation and our world in this Presidential election.
Not everyone can attend the Democratic National Convention this year, but everyone can participate from now until Election Day on November 4, 2008 to help elect a Democratic President.
There's more...

Vote on Sunday for Delegates
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
Sunday's the big day for the more than 2,300 candidates competing for 241 coveted delegate slots to go to the Democratic National Convention (including me in CD 5).
The California Democratic Party has two online tools that are worth visiting. One is a Q&A about the process; the other is a pre-registration tool to help cut down on what are expected to be busy sites.
It's terrific that this is no longer just an insiders thing. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the caucuses pull in 1,000 ballots or more.
Good luck everybody.

How to Become a California Delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention
[courtesy of California Progress Report]
From the California Democratic Party
Remember These 2008 Dates: January 15 • April 2 • April 13
If you want to run to be one of California’s 241 District-Level Delegates to the 2008 Democratic National Convention (August 25-28, 2008 at the Pepsi Convention Center, Denver), here are the simple steps you will need to take to get started.
First, you must be a registered Democrat. While Democrats do allow Independents to vote in our Primary, we don’t allow anyone but a “card carrying” Democrat to run as a Delegate.
Second, what is your congressional district? If you don’t know because you recently moved or have a hard time keeping track of numbers, check the “2008 Delegate & Alternate Allocations by Congressional District” available on the CDP website at www.cadem.org/Delegate08 to find the name of your Congressmember. This list also shows how many Delegates and Alternates are allocated to each congressional district (CD). You can also enter your voter registration address in the “Resources” section at www.cadem.org to confirm your CD.

Delegate Filing Deadline for Dem Convention
by Monica Smith [courtesy of Blog for America]
As you know, the deadline for filing to be a delegate to the
Democratic National Convention is fast approaching (5 PM, December
5th). The declaration has to be on paper and either mailed or hand
delivered to the offices of the Democratic party in Concord. at 2 1/2
Beacon Street. To simplify matters, I have copied out the pdf and am
including the two page form as a text file which you should be able to
print out. The original is here
http://nhdp.org/uploads/Declaration%20of%20Candidacy.pdf
Please keep in mind that, in addition to helping select the next
President, delegates (three women and four men from District One, four
women and three men from District Two) will help decide how future
elections and conventions are run. It's important that we
progressives be represented and that we all become familiar with how
the process works. Even if you don't plan to be a delegate, plan to
attend a caucus for one of the candidates on December 15. I will send
out addresses of meeting places later.

Denver, CO - Blogger Credentialing and the 2008 Democratic National Convention

BLOGGER CREDENTIALING
AND THE 2008 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION
DNCC Expands Credentialed Blogger Pool,
Launches DemConvention State Blogger Corps for 2008
The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) will soon be accepting applications for bloggers interested in being part of the credentialed blogger pool at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado from August 25th-28, 2008.
While the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston was the first to credential bloggers, the DNCC aims to significantly expand access for the blogger community in 2008. In line with the DNCC’s goal to engage more people in the 2008 Convention experience than ever before as well as Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean’s 50-State Strategy, the DNCC will both expand the size of the credentialed blogger pool and also offer for the first time a state blogger credentialing program in 2008. Under this program, the DNCC will offer the opportunity for one blog to be credentialed from each of the 56 states and territories. The DNCC will also credential national bloggers for the 2008 Convention, to include both political and niche bloggers as well as video bloggers from across the country.
The following two-part blogger credentialing process was developed with the
consultation of members of the political blogosphere:read more »
