Another thought on MLK

by Brian Leubitz [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

I wanted to follow up on MLK's assassination. I know Dave touched briefly on it, but as I was listening to NPR today, I heard this report about Nina Simone's performance a few days later.  Forturnately, somebody put the song up on YouTube a while ago, so we can all hear the song. The performance where this was recorded was just a few days after King's death, and the emotion is visibly raw.

Simone was one of the most talented singers of her age, and the musical talent comes through in the song that she learned in a day. But what comes through more clearly is how personal and powerful this moment was for her.

We are headed for the brink

What's going to happen?

Happy 5th Anniversary BFA!

by Jessica Falker [courtesy of Blog for America]

This is a few days late, but Happy Anniversary BFA! The first front page post here was by Zephyr Teachout,  03/15/03 @ 05:07 pm

The blog has changed a little since then, but it's still "home" to me. Use this thread to discuss what you love about BFA and how it could be improved. Please stay positive so HQ can use this thread as a list of what they are doing right and suggestions for what they could do to make BFA even better.

Potomac Primary Open Thread

Polls are closing right now, so anyone want to make quick predictions or post some numbers?

Also, I love this song this electoral season, especially because San Diego is 70s and sunny the past few days and I'm enjoying the out-of-doors.

I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque

I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades

I like it in the city when two worlds collide

You get the people and the government

Everybody taking different sides

Shows that we ain't gonna stand shit

Shows that we are united

Shows that we ain't gonna take it

Shows that we ain't gonna stand shit

Shows that we are united

Americans will celebrate July 4th, but let’s also think of our troops in Afghanistan and those stuck in Iraq by a “Commander-in-Chief” who if he had any other job in the military would have been relieved of duty a long time ago.

Karl Rove will go down as the most incompetent national political advisor of all time. Think Katrina, U.S. Attorney firings, deficits, “Scooter Libby, loss of Congress to the Democrats, Iraq, Walter Reed, immigration – and the list goes on.
