Al Gore Has Endorsed Gay Marriage

by [courtesy of Blog for America]

Former Vice President of the United States (and true victor in 2000) Al Gore continues to amaze me! Wow! He just released a strong video statement in favor of gay marriage.

This past Monday’s debate has been criticized as focusing too much on personality and not enough on issues. I tend to agree and Senator Edwards (for whom I proudly voted last week) deserves credit for driving the dialog back toward substance.

Despite his efforts, though, an issue which has received inadequate attention is gay marriage.

Problem solved! Former Vice President Al Gore has endorsed it!

As you will see in the video below, Mr. Gore’s position is clear and I share it.

The reason I was among the first congressional candidates to receive the national endorsement of Progressive Democrats of America earlier this month is my full and complete support for all 7 tenets of the Progressive Agenda. One of them calls for an end to discrimination of every kind.

Today Mr. Gore is being honored in Oslo, Norway, along with the IPCC (the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) on their decades of work to alert the world and change course on man made Climate Change caused by Global Warming.

Oslo, Al Gore: "I have one reason for being optimistic, and that is that I see throughout my own country, the United States of America, and throughout the world the rising of the world's first people-power movement on a global basis," he said.

Mr. Gore has been studying the environment since his college days at Harvard.

After serving in Vietnam, even though he was opposed to the War,

he reported for his local paper for 5 years before entering politics

and holding his first position in the US House for Tennessee.

always committed, here in the House he championed food labeling

Building a Sustainable Future

Al Gore
:  "And, by the way, those of you in the business community, I think there's a task in the business community in policing the irresponsible voices in the business community, like Exxon Mobil for example, spending all this money to intentionally confuse the public's understanding of what this is all about."

"I need advice on how to more effectively change people's minds about the reality of this (climate crisis) situation."

BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

A few months back, the Clinton Global Iniative held a Panel discussion on Building a Sustainble Future. The Panel Speakers included former Vice President Al Gore, Klause Kleinfeld (now CEO of Alcoa, but in 2006 was CEO of Seimens, Mohammed Yunis, President of Cisco Systems John Chambers and Moderator: Peter Goldmark, Program Director, Evnironmental Defense.

In a rare opportunity, you are now able to attend that Panel discussion via this video.

Mondale Backs Clinton

Last week's debate doesn't appear to be slowing down Senator Hillary Clinton's campaign. Over the weekend she picked up the endorsement of former Vice President Walter Mondale. <> <>"America is ready for change, and Hillary Clinton has the strength and experience to deliver it," Mondale said. <>"Hillary is uniquely qualified to rebuild America’s standing in the world and lead this nation from her first day in the White House."<> <>Mondale served as Vice President from 1977 to 1981 under President Jimmy Carter, and was the Democratic nominee for President in 1984.

Speak Out California http://speakoutca.org/

Amid all the well-deserved homage being paid to Nobel prize winner and former Vice President Al Gore, is a message unique to Californians.

Washington is too beholden to the gas, oil, and auto industries to seriously address global warming. The Bush administration is hell-bent on denial and delay. Bush, Cheney, and their rapacious cronies in the dinosaur energy biz are preoccupied with devising ways to block California's landmark global warming law, AB 32 (Nunez).

In Congress, the Senate voted to raise fuel economy standards for automobiles, only to have the popular mandate stymied in the House by powerful and profoundly destructive Rep. John Dingell of Detroit, married to a GM executive and notorious for blocking desperately needed progress in automotive technology on everything from seat belts and air bags to stronger bumpers and improved fuel economy.

Until we have a new Presidential administration that is pro-environment, and Rep. Dingell leaves Congress, the only way we will make progress on auto fuel economy- the leading way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions- is for the states to lead. By default, California is on the front lines of the battle to curb the climate-changing gases that are destroying our planet.

Fineman and Arnold's Role in the Presidential Election

by Julia Rosen [courtesy of Working Californians blogs]

Why did Arnold pass up an opportunity to speak at the beginning of the Republican Presidential Debate last week? It puzzles me. The team behind Arnold carefully calculates these types of appearances and this goes against Arnold's spotlight loving nature. What was the reasoning. I know one thing, Howard Fineman is way off with today's column. He suggest that Arnold, Al Gore and Michael Bloomberg may be preparing a "third force" push for the presidency. This is just silly talk:

If I were a GOP strategist – or a Democratic one – I would be worried by Arnold’s body language. He and other major independent actors on the political scene – New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Vice President Al Gore, chief among them – comprise a Third Force that could upset two-party politics as we know it in the 2008 presidential race.

Indeed, although there is no formal alliance, Schwarzenegger, Bloomberg and Gore have formed a mutual admiration society that has huge potential implications for 2008. They have come to share similar visions on the urgency of the global warming and health care crises, and a similar impatience with politics as usual.

This could be the year of the Third Force.
