Is 24 Hour Corporate Media Deciding This Election for Us?

Speak Out California
Are you following the election coverage? Here are some recent stories: The media pounds candidate Hillary Clinton to release her tax forms, because the public has a right to know. And she does release her and her husband's returns, going back a decade. The media trumpets how much income they have been receiving, how rich they are, and drills down into details. If you follow the news, it is inescapable. At the same time candidate John McCain releases only partial forms that show all assets are now in his wife's name, and he won't release his wife's tax returns. The media is mostly silent on this; most of the public has little opportunity to learn of this.
Another story: Candidate McCain won't release his medical records. Again from the media there is mostly silence; most of the public has little opportunity to learn of this.
And here is the big story: Unless you have been in a coma you know that for several weeks video clips of statements by Barack Obama's former minister have been aired nearly 24 hours a day on the news shows, especially on FOX News. These clips are considered scary by certain demographic groups who are not familiar with the speaking patterns of black ministers

Ed Rendell and FOX News

PA Gov. Ed Rendell on Fox News coverage of the Democratic primary campaign ...
I think during this entire primary coverage, starting in Iowa and up to the present -- FOX has done the fairest job, and remained the most objective of all the cable networks. You hate both of our candidates. No, I’m only kidding. But you actually have done a very balanced job of reporting the news, and some of the other stations are just caught up with Senator Obama, who is a great guy, but Senator Obama can do no wrong, and Senator Clinton can do no right.

Fox "News" and the Candidates Spiritual Advisors
by Alan Willis [courtesy of Blog for America]
Normally, I post only my own thoughts--but I'm fairly sure the folks over at Move-On won't mind the spread of their information on this issue. While I do wonder about the extent a candidate (of either party) should be quarried about the beliefs of a "spiritual advisor", if you are going question one, you should question them all. And this is ouright scarry.

Polls, Polls, and More Polls
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
The big news of the day is that Senator Hillary Clinton has a razor-thing lead over Senator Barack Obama in the California primary. And the Golden State isn't the only place where the numbers are tightening.
The Washington Post/NBC have a national poll out today showing Sen. Clinton with a 47-43 percent edge going into Super Tuesday. The margin of error is 4 percent, so it's now a dead heat nationally. The Gallup Poll's latest tracks in the Democratic race show Clinton leads Obama 48 percent to 41 percent, improving from the 3 point and 4 point leads she held earlier this week. A new Fox News poll has Clinton up 47-37 percent.
Here's a look at some new polls just out before Super Tuesday And yes, we print these with polling results from New Hampshire still fresh in our minds.

Watching the Caucuses
by Ilya Sheyman [courtesy of Blog for America]
Wow! What an incredible night. I just drove from Des Moines to my folks' home in northern Illinois and will have a complete write up on all the excitement a bit later. But, I was thrilled to find an article about the local DFA caucus watching party last night.
Check out this great article about Lake County DFA in North Chicago, Illinois:
"This is the first time we've ever had (the TV set) on," said Matt Lowry of Vernon Hills, who brings the Lake County chapter of Democracy for America to Flanagan's once a month. "I'd actually forgotten that it was there."
Lowry added with a smile that "it would have been extraordinarily ironic if the only station we could get was Fox News."
About 14 DFA members kept one eye on the screen as the early results came in, discussing such business as early voting for the Feb. 5 Illinois primary and state Sen. Terry Link's petition controversy. They also welcomed speeches from a pair of Lake County board candidates, Peter Grant (District 1) and Douglas Raul Williams (16).

Al Gore has received his Nobel Peace Prize today and urged the US and China tomake bold moves on climate change. Be sure to watch thespittle fly on Fox News this week.
Victims of the law of unintended consequences, hundreds of Hollywood production workers marched yesterday to urge an end to the Writer's Guild strike."Although these so-called below-the-line workers are not part of thenegotiations, most are out of work until the strike is over andproductions begin again."
