Global Warming: It's not just a fact. It's a choice.

Recently, when I was driving on the 405 (stuck in the usual 11am LA traffic), I heard a radio ad of parents and grandparents apologizing to future generations for not stopping global warming. As the ad says, "Global warming isn't just a fact. It's a choice."

At the end of the spot I expected to hear a shout out for the Sierra Club, NRDC, CLCV--one of California's great environmental organizations that have working to champion pro-environment laws and more importantly change the overall culture of thinking about climate change.

Imagine my surprise when instead I was told that the ad was produced by Flex Your Power--a quasi-government agency funded in large part by taxpayer (utility consumers) money. It feels just like yesterday that the debate was IF global warming existed, not what we need to do to stop it.

The ad is in a TV spot version as well.

In conjunction with the ad, people can pledge to leave a better "legacy" for their children.

Let's just say that yesterday while looking at my paycheck and paying my SMUD bill, I felt proud that I was a taxpayer.

In Memory of the 9/11 Tragedy

by Sheri Divers [courtesy of Blog for America]

Today marks the 6th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and their loved ones. Tolerance and respect are the principles of our world culture that will prevent these tragedies from happening again.

Every day that we work for these principles is a day that we honor the victims of 9/11, and make the world a better place for future generations.

God bless.

In the Democratic weekly radio address Assemblymember Hector de la Torre talks about the 37th annual celebration of Earth Day (Sunday, April 22nd).

Assemblymember de la Torre talks about the efforts made by the State Legislature to preserve the environment for future generations, including the passage of Assembly Bill 32 – the Global Warming Solutions Act. But de la Torre says saving the environment is something everyone, not just lawmakers, can do, “Everyone can do their part – no action is too small that it won’t matter, and no challenge is so great that it can’t be met.”
