Nashua Confabulation
by Monica Smith [courtesy of Blog for America]
Honestly, I'm somewhat embarrassed to think that the voters of New Hampshire were conned by the few tears Hillary Clinton squeezed out in the run-up to our primary, especially since it happened in Portsmouth where our sea-faring heritage is supposed to have toughened us up. So, I'm primed, I suspect, for any explanation that shifts the onus back where it belongs--on the conner, rather than the conned. A pattern of deception might do that.

Bob Perry Reports--NH H.B 186
by Monica Smith [courtesy of Blog for America]
Explanation: New Hampshire House Bill 186, a bill that would have provided for a random recount audit as a check and balance against electronic voting machines, was defeated in the committee of election law by a vote of 9/8. This speech, one of several, was delivered from the floor of the house on Wednesday, January 16, in an effort to overturn the majority committee report of inexpedient to legislate (ITL-kill). It is difficult to overturn a majority committee report, and this attempt failed with a vote of 253/72.

Hostage Crisis is Over at Hillary HQ
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
The hostage crisis at Senator Hillary Clinton's Rochester, N.H. campaign headquarters is over. Senator Clinton is headed to New Hampshire to thank law enforcement there for their efforts.
As someone who's spent way too many hours in campaign headquarters, I can tell you this must have been one freaky situation.
Hats off to New Hampshire law officials for handling this situation so that no one was hurt.
Clinton also issued this statement:
"I am very grateful that this difficult day has ended so well. All of my campaign staff and volunteers are safe. I want to thank them for their extraordinary courage and coolness under some very difficult pressures and dangerous situations. I also want to thank all of law enforcement. We were in touch from the moment this began with local, county, state, federal law enforcement. I am so grateful to them for their response which brought this hostage situation to such a good ending.

How We Can Get Out Of Iraq - Details
by Wendy Patterson [courtesy of Blog for America]
IF we are serious about getting out of Iraq, Bill Richardson is the man to
do it. Going to New Hampshire to help his campaign will help give him the
chance to accomplish what we want. With 47% of New Hampshire votes
undecided, and Richardson tying with Edwards there, the race is still wide
open.
Read this amazingly detailed account about how it IS possible to get out
now, as opposed to what all the other Dems candidates and the plan before
Congress are saying:

(Oakland, CA) - Draft Gore Launches TV Ads on CNN and in New Hampshire

Draft Gore Launches TV Ads on CNN and in New Hampshire
OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The movement to draft Gore for President continues to gain momentum as Draft Gore is about to launch its first round of television advertising on Friday.
Funded entirely by contributions from grassroots supporters, the 30-second spot features clips from speeches in which Gore takes an early stand against the war in Iraq and exhorts Americans to take back their government and restore Constitutional authority. "I believe our success in defending ourselves depends precisely on not giving up what we stand for," Gore says in one of the clips.
The ad will run for five days on CNN news shows beginning Nov. 2 and for three days on New Hampshire's WMUR station. "Imagine a renewed world," the ad urges Americans. "Imagine an end to the war in Iraq. Imagine Al Gore as President." The ad concludes with an appeal to supporters to sign the petition at Draftgore.com.
Draft Gore's TV commercial follows on the heels of a full-page ad the group ran in the New York Times earlier this month. The ad, devised in the form of an open letter to Gore, received national and international attention just two days before the former vice president was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

I really don't like to say I told you so
by David Dayen [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
Aw, who am I kiddin'?
For months, politicians in big states like California, Florida and Michigan have griped about their lack of influence in the 2008 presidential race, pushing up their primaries to try to diminish the sway of Iowa and New Hampshire. Now, thanks to those efforts, Iowa and New Hampshire appear more important than ever.
It's mainly a process story about how candidates must score an early victory to be able to gather enough money to compete on February 5. It was all so eminently predictable, and the relative absence of any Presidential candidates or buzz in this state with a little more than 3 months to go until the primary is further proof. The only way to end the prospect of Iowa and New Hampshire picking the nominee is to... stop having them pick the nominee.
