Get Used to These Numbers: Ballot Measures Assigned

Sec. Bowen just announced that she has assigned numbers for the boatload of initiatives that will be on the ballot in November.

So get used to these numbers.  You are going to be seeing these a lot on this website, your TV screen and your mailbox.  We need to refine the shorthand for these initiatives.  This admittedly a quick pass at it.  The framing needs to be tweaked and I am sure there will be some argument within the progressive left about these initiatives.

Resolutions Committee on the propositions

I'm sitting in the resolutions cmte now, but I want to post our positions on the propositions. YES: Bonds: HSR, Children's Hospital, Alternative fuel vehicles Treatment of farm animals. Sentencing of nonviolent offenders NO: Parental Notification, Criminal Penalties and public safety funding, solar and renewable energy, limit on marriage, redistricting No position: Victims rights

DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION: Planned Parenthood Warns of New Parental Consent Abortion Proposition

At the California State Democratic Convention in San Jose today, the political director of Planned Parenthood of California gave warning that two wealthy anti-choice donors plan, for the third time, to place a proposition on the ballot that would require parental notification for minors seeking an abortion. California voters have twice rejected the proposition, because it can put teenagers' lives at risk.

  • Ted Gullickson of the SF Tenants' Union, along with similar groups from across the state, has started a new blog, Oppose the Landlord Scheme, to, um, oppose the landlord scheme. Go check it out. Ted and the SFTU are always hard at work to protect and further the rights and interests of tenants.
