The Alaskan state Legislature is trying to put the best face possible on global warming. From the Anchorage Daily News:
The state Legislature is looking to hire a few good polar bear scientists. The conclusions have already been agreed upon -- researchers just have to fill in the science part.
A $2 million program funded with little debate by the Legislature last month calls for using state money to fund an "academic based" conference that highlights contrarian scientific research on global warming. Legislators hope to undermine the public perception of a widespread consensus among polar bear researchers that warming global temperatures and melting Arctic ice threaten the polar bears' survival.
Remember, it's not a lie if you belive its true...and get some scientists to concoct evidence.

California is still mostly a presidential ATM

Running for president this cycle is not a very straight forward proposition, not that ever has been particularly easy. The condensed primary calendar means that candidates no longer can spend just about all of their campaign time in Iowa and New Hampshire. However, that does not mean that they will not spend the lion share there. Candidate performance in those two states will deeply effect the media narrative and public perception leading into the other early primary states like California on February 5th.
Part of the reason why there is such a big push for massive amounts of money is that candidates will need to spend the traditional amounts in the early caucuses and compete in the other states just days later. WaPo:

Democratic Debate Talk Clock

America -- land of equality…of equal opportunity, but in the past six years that so called “fairness” has vacated the ranks of business and government.
In the 2008 presidential election, more is at stake than war, poverty and healthcare. The ability for skilled individuals, with reasonable unsullied thoughts to break the chains of ill-bred public perception is also on the line.
How can we as a nation return to justice, and lead in the world with impartiality to all, if our own presidential election has already been handicapped over 500 days before the final voting?
