The Scott McClellan Republican Backlash: Bob Dole Edition

[courtesy of Blog for America]

Ken Silervstein at Harper's Magazine writes about Bob Dole's criticism of Scott McClellan's tell-all book:

This would be the same Bob Dole who promised Kansans that he would come “home” if he lost his 1996 presidential bid and then, after being crushed by Bill Clinton, stayed in Washington and went to work as a lobbyist for a host of corporate and foreign interests?

Republican Scare Tactics Again

A CNN post: Mukasey 'surprised' by scope of terror threats 03 / 21 / 2008

This equates to going to a hospital ICU and telling someone that they are going to die! You just don't  say such a thing. What is the intent?

Lincoln Diaz-Balart needs to apologize for affronting the memory of Tom Lantos.

by Brian Leubitz [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

Hat tip to DKos for this clip from MSNBC's First Read:

Democrats are affronted. Right in the middle of the Statuary Hall service for the late Tom Lantos, a Republican went to the floor -- just steps from the solemn proceedings -- and called a procedural vote, apparently out of pique.

The Republican was the aforementioned Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL). This kind of behavior is petty and disrespectful of a man who spent his life fighting for human rights across the world. Completely unacceptable.

Congratulations and Condolences

A big shout out to MontcoDFA'er Bev Hahn who successfully helped steer Diane Morgan's campaign for Montgomery County Controller to victory. Congratulations to Diane and Bev. Their endless hours of hard work paid off.

I'd like to say the same for MontcoDFA'ers Bob Wilt and Paul Gallagher who were running for Horsham Council. Unfortunately, like many other local candidates around the county, they were steamrollered by the Republican GOTV machine. Thanks for fighting the good fight, Bob and Paul, and working so hard to try to open up your local government to real accountability.

Speaking of the Montco Republican's GOTV machine, it worked well in returning the Republicans to control of the courthouse. In spite of plenty of ticket-splitting, as evidenced by Diane Morgan's and other Row Office races, and over 17,000 undervotes (people casting only one or none of the the two votes available to them) Bruce Castor (1st) and Jim Matthews (3rd) will be the new majority on the County Commission. Joe Hoeffel (2nd) will join them as the minority commissioner. Ruth Damsker finished fourth and out of the running.

It's Back: Republican Electoral Initiative Returns

[courtesy of The California Majority Report]

Signature gatherers were back on the streets this weekend circulating petitions for another version of the Republican power grab for the electoral college initiative.

I'm not sure who's behind it, but I've been told the signature gatherers are getting $2 per signature. That's not an extraordinary amount.

The gatherers have about six weeks to gather signatures. Expect a nuclear attack from Democrats.

The "Republican" Netroots Movement

by Julia Marden [courtesy of Blog for America]

This has been cracking up everybody at DFA HQ all day, so I thought I'd pass it along:

In real news, check out DFA's Presidential Pulse Poll. The write-in votes for Al Gore are really starting to add up. He just overtook Clinton, and is moving up on Dennis Kucinich!
