"No End in Sight" screening @ SFD Meeting - WED.
by Bill Lackemacher [courtesy of Blog for America]
You Spoke – We Listened!
We’ve responded to feedback we received regarding the movie we chose for our November meeting. Since most people have already seen "An Inconvenient Truth" (and Al Gore has not yet thrown his hat into the Presidential race), we’ve decided to show another film this month. A great film recently became available, and so we’re going to take this opportunity to bring you No End In Sight!
To RSVP and watch a preview, click here:

No End In Sight, winner of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize: Documentary, has received incredible reviews. Time Magazine has called the film "Without a doubt the most important film you are likely to see this year," and it is possibly the best reviewed film of the entire year, as you can see from the selection of critic quotes below.
Join us this Wednesday to see for yourself - This film makes a case against Bush’s Iraq policy, even by some of those who helped put those policies into place.
We’ll provide the popcorn and sodas (and coffee, tea and snacks); you provide opinions and discussion!

SiCKO a HUGE Success in Sacto!!
by Bill Lackemacher [courtesy of Blog for America]
Hi all,
A BIG THANKS to everyone that went out to see SiCKO this weekend!! Despite incredible competition from other films opening this weekend like "Ratatouille" and "Live Free or Die Hard", SiCKO was able to gross more than $4.5 million on only 441 screens across the country. That's a higher per-screen average than "Live Free or Die Hard"!
Sacramento for Democracy (SFD) spent the entire weekend tabling / flyering at the Tower Theatre. Thanks to everyone that was able to come out on Friday night for the 7 PM screening. SFD members and their friends purchased OVER 200 tickets and filled up more than half of the Sold Out screening!! Click here to check out some pictures (more coming soon).

An Evening with Jeremy Scahill: Blackwater - The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army
by Bill Lackemacher [courtesy of Blog for America]
Hello all,
Here's a reminder that SfD is co-hosting this event on Thursday (May 3rd) in lieu of our regular first Wed. of the month meeting. With the recent talk about Blackwater trying to set up a mercenary army training facility outside of San Diego, Jeremy's talk could not be more timely. Please join us for a truly informative meeting and learn how YOU can help stop Blackwater before they take over this great state of ours.
For some background information about the Blackwater situation in CA, please take a look at these postings by John Tjaden:
