To Do List for Fighting Dirty Tricksters
by PeteB2 [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
[crossposted at Daily Kos]
The Courage Campaign and the Democratic party establishment are pushing back against the Dirty Tricks Initiative.
What can we as individuals do to help fight this campaign and hopefully prevent it from getting on the ballot?
Let me make a few suggestions:

Election 2007: When enough nativism is finally enough
by Brian Leubitz [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
It's easy to forget that we are approaching an election. Sure, it's an off year, and many of the big races (SF-Mayor, etc) are already practically in the books. But that doesn't mean there isn't anything to work for. I've talked about some things here in San Francisco (Yes on A, No on H), but there are plenty of other races across the state that really mean something. Take, for example, the San Bernadino City ouncil race. In the 5th Ward, Carolyn Tillman is challenging incumbent Chas (yes, really) Kelly. This slick-backed balding guy seems to think that we need to check our papers wherever we go. Well, that is if you look "Mexican" anyway:

Senator Obama's California Campaign Director on the Offensive Against Senator Clinton
[courtesy of The California Majority Report]
Wilshire and Washington has a report on a California fundraiser put on by the Barack Obama camp. Let's just say they ain't kidding around:
"Obama's new California Campaign director Mitchell Schwartz perhaps offered a preview of harsh rhetoric to come when he "took the gloves off" and focused on Clinton's experience. He cited her stint in the late 1980s on the Wal Mart board of directors, "While they perfected the art of denying health care and retirement benefits for their workers."

Donna Frye Caves on Wal-Mart, San Diego Open to Supercenters
by Lucas O'Connor [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
After consistently voting to ban supercenters in San Diego, Councilwoman Donna Frye yesterday switched her vote in a surprise move, killing any opportunity to override the Mayor's veto. After years of opposition, Frye said:
I heard from many, many people that want to have that choice, and I think there's a way to give people that choice, to hopefully put something in place that also protects small businesses by doing an economic impact report and allowing the communities to have a greater oversight of that process
Essentially, she's decided that the effect of Supercenters can be mitigated by nibbling around the edges, turning her back on the UFCW, the Neighborhood Market Association, and any supporter of responsible growth or sound economic policy in San Diego

Supermarkert Swindle: Brave New Films Joins the Grocery Worker Fight
by juls [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]
(cross-posted from Working Californians)
We have gained an amazing new partner in the fight for a fair contract for the grocery workers. Brave New Films, of "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Living" fame has created a new online campaign to help tell the story of the grocery workers and collect pledges from customers not to shop at the Vons, Raphs or Albertsons if they force a lockout or a strike. Here is the first video:
