July 12 - Help Turn Northern California Blue

As the presidential campaign heats up, don’t forget about Congress!

Democrats Charlie Brown, Jerry McNerney, and Bill Durston are running in “red” districts, and all three of these great candidates face tough campaigns. To shore up a Democratic Congressional majority—and to ensure that our next Congress does NOT include Republicans Tom McClintock, Dean Andal, or Dan Lungren—please join us in volunteering now!

The Brown and McNerney campaigns are each sponsoring a “Day of Action” this coming Saturday, July 12. Take Back Red California will be organizing carpools of volunteers for precinct walking and voter registration. Join Democratic activists in CD 4 and CD 11, and get to know your state. Round up a few friends and make a day of it—it’s time well spent!

The details are below, along with schedules for the rest of the summer.

Republicans see Rep. Jerry McNerney's GOP-leaning seat as one of their strongest pick up opportunities in an otherwise abysmal year for the Republican brand, but a developing scandal by Republican candidate Dean Andal threatens to give McNerney the breathing room he needs.

brownsox over at the Daily Kos has more:

"One of the GOP’s top House recruits for this cycle may be in grave trouble. Assemblyman Dean Andal, challenging freshman Rep. Jerry McNerney in California’s Republican-leaning 11th District, has been accused of ties to a leak from the Board of Trustees of San Joaquin Delta College, in violation of California’s open government laws.

In a nutshell, members of the Delta board of trustees met to discuss terminating the contract of a delinquent contractor. Information from that meeting was illegally leaked to the contractor, who was then able to use that information to maintain the contract with Delta College. This is a serious crime, and a major betrayal of the public trust.

And if Board of Trustees member Ted Simas is to be believed, Andal -- a consultant to the aforementioned contractor, PCCP Mountain House, on the Delta project -- was personally privy to that information."

Well, the votes are in, the matchups are set, and so I thought it was time for a baseline roundup of where I think the California House races stand as of now. The main pieces of information that are causing me to reset my expectations are the primary results, the April 1-May 15 fundraising numbers and the new registration numbers from the Secretary of State's office. You can track all three yourself:

Primaries
FEC disclosures (you can search by candidate name)
Voter registration by Congressional district

That said, let's take a look, starting with the one threatened Democratic seat.

(A note: I'm going to start a state legislative roundup as well)
