Yolo United - Organized and Ready to Take on the Republican Machine!

by tgypsy_jcs [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

This past Thursday evening, nearly 100 Democratic activists got together to kick off the Yolo County Democratic Central Committee's 2008 Campaign - Yolo United! With the primary season over, we are now uniting to make sure that all of our energy is focused on getting Democrats elected to every seat that represents Yolo County.

We were fortunate to have three of Yolo County's delegates to the Democratic Convention with us, all of them ready to join together to make sure that we elect Democrats to every local, state, and Federal position on the ballot.

Don Gibson (Clinton delegate), Martha Beetley (Obama delegate), and Ryan Loney (Obama delegate) will be representing us in Denver in August.

Join me below the fold to learn more about the Yolo United Campaign.

Note: I am a volunteer with the Yolo United Campaign.

Failed Conservative Values: All about Greed

[courtesy of Blog for America]

There is sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.
Mahatma Gandhi

I interviewed people around the Democracy for America booth at the California Democratic Party Convention in San Jose.  I asked people how have conservative values failed?  It surprised me how many responded that the conservative value of greed was the biggest failure.   Here are some of the comments.

Failed Conservative Values: Dan Healy on Greed & Force

The word conservative is even more abused than the word progressive, I think.  But I guess in its current incarnation of those phrases, I think the word conservative literally means “I’m out for me”, and the word progressive means “We are out for we” at his most basic analysis.  That’s how things seem to look right now.

Progressive Values Stories: Norman Solomon on We're All in it Together

[courtesy of Blog for America]

I interviewed Norman Solomon at the 2008 Democratic Party Convention in San Jose, California. Norman  is a columnist and his book "War Made Easy"  was  recently made into a movie with Sean Penn narrating it. In this second part of the interview, he  talks about the progressive value of responsibility for each other.  This responsibility is the basis of the popular progressive phrase,  'We're All in it Together' which stands in contrast to the more conservative view of  'Every Man for Himself'.

California Democratic Party Needs to Focus on Unifying, Not Early Endorsements--Especially in Crucial Assembly District 80

As first time delegates at the recent California Democratic Convention in San Jose, my wife Linda and I were two of the eleven delegates who banded together to ensure that the Party made no endorsement in the 80th Assembly primary race. There were some very good reasons why eleven scrappy delegates, the majority of whom were first timers, found it necessary to stand together (no matter which candidate they supported) to ensure that the Party made no endorsement in the AD80 race. Those reasons had everything to do with good old-fashioned democracy and fairness.

California Democratic Party Convention for 2008 Ends with No Endorsement in Migden-Leno Race—And a lot more

The California State Democratic Convention of 2008 finished its business by voting 742 to 298 (71.3%) to vacate the endorsement of incumbent Senator Carole Migden for the 3rd Senate District. A substitute motion to endorse Mark Leno failed, getting only 60.3% of the vote, with 75% needed for endorsement from the floor.

Following this issue—the most contentious one in an otherwise virtual love fest amongst California Democrats—the body approved by a voice vote the consent calendar comprising the remaining endorsements

In another vote on the 40th Assembly District, the convention overruled a district caucus recommendation to endorse bob Blumenfeld. There are four Democratic candidates running in the primary for that heavily Democratic seat.
