Obama Slashes and Burns through the Delegate List

by Brian Leubitz [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

On Monday, juls wrote about how the campaigns could "prune" their delegate lists.  I didn't pay much attention, but perhaps I should have.  Here is the new list.

Today, I learned that I have been pruned out of my delegate race. I will say that I didn't really expect to win. There were people in my district that were better organized and better known (Chris Daly). And they both made the cut. However, I didn't figure the campaign to whom I donated money, and to whom I traveled to two different states for, would decide that I wasn't loyal enough. Heck, I spent March 4 working for Buffy Wicks (the CA field director) in Texas at the Election Hotline.

I understand that the Obama campaign is wary of the Clinton campaign picking off some of their pledged delegates, but you would figure that the least they could do would be to cross reference their donation rolls and their volunteer lists.

I understand that Obama cut about 1000 of his delegate candidates, compared to about 20 for Clinton. If Barack Obama wanted to increase participation and activism amongst youth leaders, cutting the president of California Young Dems (Rocky Fernandez) and other youth leaders.

So, if you were "pruned", I feel your pain.

Calitics Becomes Nevadatics!

by David Dayen [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

Two groups of Caliticians will be hitting Nevada for the weekend to cover the caucuses on Saturday afternoon.  I will be with Todd Beeton of MyDD in Las Vegas; and Brian, Juls and I believe Lucas will be in the Reno area.  In Vegas, we'll be hitting the "closing argument" events from Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on Friday night (John Edwards actually has a morning event in Vegas that we'll probably miss, and then he leaves Nevada for Oklahoma and Missouri), and we'll make an appearance at one of the at-large precinct caucuses on the Strip on Saturday.  I'll let the NorCal component check in with their plans.

Entire Pro-Blackwater Slate Loses Election in San Diego--Big Win for Grassroots

[courtesy of California Progress Report]

Terryfaceplace.jpg By Terry Williams

Today's big terryfaceplace news is that the election to recall most of the members of the Potrero Planning Group was yesterday, and the entire "pro-Blackwater" slate has been replaced by an overwhelming margin. Excellent news. Not only is this a statement against Blackwater, but a stand against elected officials who've been nothing but arrogant at every turn.

I'm not going to go over all the details because much has been written on the subject already today, but this makes me very happy.

For more words, check out: Juls at Kos and Calitics, and Todd at MyDD.

I just love this for three reasons. First, it's in large part a public NO vote against Blackwater establishing a base of operations in Potrero. It doesn't belong there. Where does it belong? I dunno. But I know it does not belong in Potrero. It's wrong for the area, and the people don't want it. Just go away, Blackwater.

Didn't I just say that, Part II: Arnold is a sellout edition

by Brian Leubitz [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

Well, I suppose juls is the one that really should be writing this, as she wrote far, far more about Arnold than really anybody in the state, certainly in the blogosphere. But directly from the, uh, what took you so long files, comes this editorial from the right-leaning LA Daily News:

But Schwarzenegger has bested even Davis in fundraising. Whereas Davis grossed $120 million in seven years, Schwarzenegger has raked in $125.8 million in only six. And like the special interests that bankrolled Davis, the special interests that are pouring millions into Schwarzenegger are no doubt looking for something in return.
***
And as long as the special interests control the state's political process, they will continue to bankrupt California(LA Daily News 11.26.07)

Of course, the LA Daily News, as a typical reactionary, fails to make that last logical leap. That if the special interests are killing us, we need clean money. What other solution is there to the problems they've outlined? Of course, they don't think as corporations as special interests, that label is reserved for unions and other organizations that support workers' rights.

On Blogging under a nom de pixel

by Brian Leubitz [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

First, I think it is obvious that we allow anonymous, well, actually pseudonymous, blogging here. There are a number of bloggers at varying levels of anonymity here.  For my own part, I began this site as sfbriancl, a derivative of my name (The C standing for Charles, the SF for...uh...SF). And jsw, well, those are Jeremy's initials. Juls seems pretty easy to link to Julia Rosen, same with dday. Lucas was Lucas from the get-go.  And we also gave you most of that information in the About Page. But, I guess there was still enough to attack on the basis of anonymity.

Flip it over, please...

Wednesday Open Thread

by juls [courtesy of Calitics - Front Page]

I have four posts up today at Working Californians and you can go check them out.  This one is going to be pretty linky, mostly things I wish I had time to write about today.

  • While I disagree with Herdt on Arnold true attitude towards the environment, he shows quite the pattern when it comes to Arnold thwarting the public process.
  • Can I just say that it is absolutely ridiculous that there is an entire system in place for loans for legislative staff.  It's not that it exists, because it is good that they can still pay their bills, but that there is actually a routine need for such a system.  And yes there still is no budget.
  • The Republicans are stepping up their opposition to AB 8, complete with a professionally produced YouTube.  They are even claiming that Arnold would veto AB 8 in its current form.
  • And if you haven't watched the Miller video linked in the quickies you really should.  He was mad and I like it.  More please.
