An Apology to Senator Clinton and Her Supporters

[courtesy of The California Majority Report]

A few days before Tuesday's presidential primaries, I wrote a piece that I have come to regret. It's central thesis, that the presidential nominating contest is over and has been for quite some time, I stand by. Senator Hillary Clinton's only path to the White House at this stage would outrage a lot of voters, and I just don't see the party elders allowing that to happen. But I don't stand by my words.

While preaching unity for the party, my word choices were inherently divisive. I saw a fire in a crowded theatre, and while my mind tried to douse the flames with water, my words used gasoline. I apologize to Senator Clinton and her supporters. There's a fine line between criticism and insult, and some of my word choices clearly crossed that line. The post in question is deleted and hopefully in the dustbin of history, and as we finally wind down this process, unite behind our candidate, and proceed onward for the general election, I can only guarantee that my attention will be focused on Senator John McCain and our downballot prospects.

Choosing to Be Inspired in Red Orange County--A Candidate's Wife and a Grassroots Campaign

That's right, I'm a candidate's wife, it happened rather quickly too. Well, I've been married to the guy for almost ten years, but the candidate part has unfolded in just a few days.

Now, why am I not the candidate? Oh, it's a long story and I've not been as good of a Democrat as my husband has been, really. I am still registered as Decline to State. Yes, how is that for a confession? But Gary, my husband, has been registered as a Democrat for many years and he unabashedly calls himself a party loyalist.

So how did this come about? Let me tell you...

We live in Orange County, Ca. It is a red County to many but emerging to be more purple than anything else. I started my political blogging last year when I decided to get involved in the Presidential Primaries. I chose my candidate and I was off and running. I found my voice during this time and was and still am a proud contributor to EENR. It made me sane.

Obama Gets Specific

by David Reiter [courtesy of Blog for America]

This year I am captivated by the Presidential Primaries more than I have ever been. It is evident that the American people are waking up from a seven year slumber from democracy. Democratic voters are outnumbering Republicans by nearly 2 to 1 in almost every state, and if the pattern continues, McCain is in for a slaughter this November in 'red' and 'blue' states, alike.

Democratic voters are clearly mobilized to effect change this year, and set our nation back on the Democratic path. If the difference in turnout continues, Democrats will finally have clear majorities in both houses of Congress, and have the opportunity to show the American people and the world why our nation is that 'shining city upon the hill.' No matter which Democratic candidate is nominated, it appears clear that that person will be elected.

Barack Obama took the delegate lead this week, and almost immediately McCain and Clinton turned their ire upon him. In true political fashion, they both chose the same tactic: making false statements, repeating them, and hoping that people are too ignorant to know the difference. CNN chose to highlight these tactics on today's on-line front page.

Study: Unmarried Women May Be Key to 2008 Elections

[courtesy of The California Majority Report]

Unmarried women may be the sleeping giant in the November elections after turning up in record numbers in presidential primaries, according to a new survey from Greenberg Quinlan Research.

Matched against a generic Republican, these women voters favor the Democratic presidential candidate by a whopping 62-38 percent margin.

The "change" message works well with this group: 80 percent hope the election will bring "real change" for America. This survey did not break down their Obama vs. Clinton votes, but other surveys showed this voting bloc support Clinton by large margins.
