Republicans in the Senate have a plan to eliminate the $700 milliondeficit in the state budget and turn it into a $300 million surplus,reports the Sac Bee. Unfortunately, it’s also a plan to eliminate funding for welfare and public transportation.Also suspiciously under attack are plans for a new Labor UnionInstitute at UCLA, and the CA Attorney General’s plans to sue thefederal EPA over greenhouse gas regulations.
It looks like the GOP is also seeking to undermine the California Environmental Quality Actin the state budget negotiations, by threatening to undermine thebudget negotiations themselves unless this gets through, warns theCalifornia Progress Report. GovernorSchwarzenegger has appointed a Republican activist and former chairmanof the San Bernardino County Republican committee to be a SuperiorCourt judge who the state bar’s Judicial Nominees Evaluation Commissionfound to be unqualified for the position,reports the Associated Press. It’s unclear how the rating factored intothe governor’s decision, but it’s unbecoming either way.
