Unemployment Up, Jobs Stagnate

Look at the bright side; at least they're looking for work. Here's the San Francisco Chronicle:

"Across the nation, jobs dipped by 80,000 in March and the unemployment rate rose .03 percentage point to 5.1 percent, the Labor Department reported earlier this month. The Labor Department's state data, released today, showed that only Michigan and Alaska had higher unemployment rates than California in March, a sign of the severity of the state's housing bust. ..."

And here's California Democratic Party Chair Art Torres:

"Today, we learned that California’s unemployment rate jumped to 6.2 percent, meaning 1.13 million Californians are now out of work. While the unemployment rate rises, Californians continue to lose their homes in the mortgage crisis, and gas and food prices continue to skyrocket, where are the Republicans? ..."

Luckily, Assembly Democrats have (at least a partial) solution. "Your state government is also trying to do its part to maintain California’s legacy as a champion of the environment and an innovator of new technologies -- and we’re creating jobs in the process," said Assembly Budget Chair John Laird (D-Santa Cruz)."
